The classic String shelf, a big sister of the Pocket shelf, was designed by Nisse and Kajsa Strinning in 1949 and were produced after winning the first prize during a library competition organized by Bonniers Folkbibliotek. The Pocket version of the String shelf was imagined by the Swedish architect Nisse Strinning in 2005 . The ingenious size of the Pocket variant means that the shelf can be used as well as a bedside table or auxiliary table. With its characteristic lacquered steel ends, the String shelf was designed by drawing inspiration from the ELFA dish drain, which was also designed by Strinning.
